Friday, October 28. 2005AirTran Airways to Stop Selling Tickets on Expedia So Expedia often calls us up for advice on business strategy and we give it freely. Because even the biggest travel site in the world needs to talk to someone. And we're good listeners. So, last year they asked us whether they should keep Intercontinental and their hotel brands Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza, Candlewood on their site. Being the keen business strategists we are, we said "You're the biggest travel site in the world, you don't need them." And it was good to see they listened, because since last year you can't find the Intercontinental brands in Expedia. Strangely enough, you can find all of Intercontinental's brands in the Mobissimo search engine as we work with them directly. So last week Dara Khosrowshahi called us again and said, "Mobissimo, what should I do with AirTran?" Our response? "Dara, you don't need the headache. They're just a little low cost airline. We can search them and you send all your users to us." Needless to say, Dara was happy for the advice and today announced AirTran will no longer be available through Expedia. But never fear MobiUsers, you can find AirTran in our search engine since we search them directly.

Thursday, October 27. 2005Google Introduces The Booking Buddy and TravelZoo Killer?
We at Mobissimo, like trillions of other people in this world, use Google a lot. And it's always interesting to see what new products they are building with their billions of dollars. So, try this, type in San Francisco to London nov 18 to nov 12 and see what you get. It looks something like this:
When you click on one of the travel brands like Expedia, Hotwire, and Orbitz, you are taken to the brand's site where the search has magically been conducted for the dates you inputted into the search engine. Similar to the way Booking Buddy works, but w/o the ability to input one-way or round-trip. Interesting application. And what if advertisers could post their deals for these destinations? Holy cow. Nice to see those PHDs earning their pay. They are so smart and crafty. Our question is, how the hell do we get on that list Mr. Page and Mr. Brin? Thursday, October 20. 2005Best Los Angeles Airfare to Europe
The big mover on the Los Angeles Index was Frankfurt, dropping $86 or 16%, making it the cheapest way to get into Europe in November via CheapTickets/US Airways. In fact, it's so cheap you could consider it as a solid hub for creating MobiCombos. For example, if you were trying to book a flight into Venice from LA for the dates below on Expedia it would cost you $676. With a MobiCombo, you fly into Frankfurt for $441, then hop a plane from the nearby airport in Frankfurt (HHN) to Treviso (TSF), the nearby airport (19 miles) to Venice for $125. The total price for the ticket is $566, a grand savings of $110 or 16% discount over Expedia. Holy cow! That's like Mobissimo giving you a coupon for 16% off a flight to Europe. For free. Plus you get a free layover, if you can't make the connection times work, in Frankfurt. You can buy a lot of bockwurst for $110. Send all emails of undying gratitude to blog at mobissimo.com.
