With Thanksgiving behind us, a new challenge presents itself: holiday shopping!
For some of us, each present is picked out thoughtfully in advance and placed promptly under the tree. However, for others shopping can be hell! There's just no time (or patience!) for the crowds and the frenzy. There is one great tip that can help a busy traveler keep up with their shopping without taking too much time away from their schedule... Shop at the airport!
Portland International (PDX)
Portland, Ore. "One of Portland's favorite stores is Powell's Books (both used and new), and a nice surprise is that there are three airport locations," Libert says. "There's other excellent retail, too, from national names like Brookstone and Nike to Pacific Northwest purveyors offering packaged or shipped salmon, Pendleton wool and Northwest wines and candies. Take note of the fair pricing, along with no sales tax." 877-739-4636; flypdx.com

Best Fares from New York to Europe - Nice, Great Fares! As always, New York continues to stun with amazing fares to Amsterdam (AMS) London (LON), and Paris (PAR) dropped even lower! Sheesh, throw in Brussels (BRU) and Florence (FLR) and you have a European extravaganza! And by extravaganza I mean smorgasboard. And by smorgasboard I mean ... bleh, you get the point. Brussels is a great place, spent a summer there with a beautiful someone. Sigh* ... I'm booking my flight right now. For flights departing 12/06 returning 12/14
Best Fares from Los Angeles to Europe - Fares have IncreasedWell, France remains exciting with all the rioting and the fact that people enjoy fireworks reflects in the fares. Literal hot spots like Paris (PAR) and Nice (NCE) are expensive right now. Madrid (MAD), is a better choice, better night life anyway and Amsterdam (AMS) is always a groovy destination. For flights departing 12/06 returning 12/14
Best Fares from San Francisco to Europe. One Word - ExpensiveWow, what a difference a week makes, last week Frankfurt (FRA) was cheap, this week, almost 12% gain. Suddenly Maultaschen and Leberkaes don't sound so good. Also, looks like so many people are going to participate in the riots in Paris (PAR) that the fares have spiked significantly. However, good fares to Eastern European destinations, well if you consider Athens in Eastern Europe. The Greeks won't mind, trust me, I just asked them. For flights departing 12/06 returning 12/14
Best Fares from San Francisco to Latin America - Prices are Much HigherOk, so prices this week are very high, travel to my personal favourite Brasil is much much higher - shoulda, woulda, coulda. As mentioned last time, Christmas, or Navidad in much of South America is the main travel season of the year. One bright spot is Quito, I've been there, fascinating, intriguing. Make it happen. For flights departing 12/06 returning 12/14
Best Fares from San Francisco to Asia - Prices are Higher Again!Sheesh, prices have risen again, now it costs $1287 to fly to Manila (MNL), so if you were planning on seeing the Imelda Marcos shoe museum, now is definitely not a good time. However, Tokyo (NRT) has a good fare as does Christchurch (CHC). It seems that fare to Christchurch have been cut two weeks in a row, so I guess this is a sign that the Middle Earth is alive and well and expecting your visit. For flights departing 12/06 returning 12/14
Tuesday, November 22. 2005Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Tips
Thanksgiving is just around the corner! I can almost taste that turkey and pumpkin pie... But first I'll have to battle with the millions of people who will take to the skies between now and Nov. 29th and so will you! Are you prepared to handle the chaos?! If you aren't a frequent traveler, here are a few tips from Yahoo! on what to expect at the airport:
Most of all, be patient and remember your family and an amazing turkey dinner is waiting for you! The madness will all be worth it! Happy Thanksgiving! Read the whole article here. Monday, November 21. 2005Drive To Europe and Asia!Well, not any time soon. But the Discovery Channel asked some engineers to put together some plans for a Transatlantic Tunnel and a bridge across the Bering Strait:
Thursday, November 17. 2005Best Fares from San Francisco to Asia - Prices are Much Higher!Like last week, the prices from west coast to Asian destinations have increased, most notably Seoul, Korea (ICN) and Manila (MNL). A double digit fare increase is always a red flag. On a brighter note, the fare to Christchurch (CHC) has fallen almost 5%. So if you have to meet Gandalf and your loyal sidekick Samwise and make the trek to Mt. Doom to throw the One Ring into the fire from whence it came, New Zealand is perfect for you. For flights departing 12/01 returning 12/09
Wednesday, November 16. 2005Best Fares from San Francisco to Latin America - Fares are Still HighSigh* Fares are up pretty much across the board from San Francisco to Latin America. Interestingly enough, there are a lot of Latinos in California, and they usually like to travel back home for the holidays, so fares are tough to get cheap. It's true. For flights departing 11/30 returning 12/08
