Ok, right now it's 70 degrees in SFO, not really an ideal time to leave since this is the time of year we cherish the most, however, fares have dropped, most markedly to Moscow (MOW) and London (LON). I don't know about Moscow, but getting robbed by the Russian Mafia and eating a $20 Big Mac don't seem like much fun to me, but at least your ticket is cheap.

The LAX Fare Index for this week shows average fares for most routes from LAX to Europe. A couple small bright spots are Zurich (ZRH) and Paris (PAR), but otherwise fares are pretty much at the average prices, which means not too bad. You can always try a MobiCombo?

A great time to book a ticket from New York to Europe. Post Thanksgiving always has pretty good fares, but Paris for under $400?! Wow, rioting never seemed so affordable. Warsaw is also cheap as is Stockholm and Florence. Walk off those pounds in Europe, trust me, you'll enjoy it.

Avoid this problem by deleting these files each time you log on; detailed instructions can be found under the "Help" option in your browser menu.

• When booking a multi-leg flight turn to a website with ITA Software. This simple-to-use technology allows you to search for airfare then e-mail an agent to see if a lower price can be found elsewhere. Sites such as Orbitz.com and CheapTickets.com use this software.

• Consider an alternate airport. Often cities are near multiple airports, and fares can vary dramatically from one to the next based on location and air carrier service. Washington, D.C., for example, is within driving distance of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. But fares are often lower at Baltimore Washington, because it's farther away.

• Fly on a small, low-cost air carrier such as JetBlue or Southwest. You may not get luxe leather seats and personal TV screens on every flight, but who can argue with round-trip tickets for less than $100? For a directory of U.S. carriers, try ReidsGuides.com. • Negotiate your room rate once you're there. During off-season slumps, some properties will barter. Go between 4 and 6 p.m., when the reservations agent will want to fill canceled rooms. Offering to pay cash and staying at least three nights will increase your chances of getting your asking price.

Air France has some of the best service in the industry, take advantage of a great Business Class fare so you can truly relax after seeing the Eiffel Tower, strolling the Louvre, gazing warmly on the rioters and bonfires in Bobigny and Clichy. Seems to not be the best week for fares from the west coast to international destinations. However Singapore (SIN) and Manila (MNL), two personal favourites have fare drops. Not a bad time to go, it will be a little cooler and the rains will not be so strong.

Well, again, fares are up pretty much across the board from San Francisco to Latin America. It's the beginning of the high season down there, you know ... summer, so fares to Latin America are often higher. Quito (UIO) has a great fare, but right now is not the best time to go unless you're going to the Ollie North Camp for Sandinista Gun running.

Hmmm... fares have increased this week to Europe from San Francisco, but still a great time to go. No crowds, no lines, crispness in the air ... trust me, it's worth the extra 2.50%.

Still a good time to book a ticket from New York to Europe, amazingly during Thanksgiving. So if you're tired of Aunt Ethel dry bird, try the borscht in Warsaw, aquavit in Stockholm, or bistecca fiorentina in Florence. And then there's always Paris, ho hum.
