Tuesday, November 28. 2006“Ryanair, the airline for the extremely poor or very lonely”Not our quote. Someone who wasn't very happy with Ryanair's increasingly frustrating policies meant to keep costs down. On one hand you might argue these policies are meant to keep costs down, but really is letting families board first such a cost issue? And the baggage policy just seems dumb. Anyway, read the rant and decide. From Upgrade: Travel Better:
Advertisements $8.6B for Delta - US Airways Gives Formal Offer to AirlineWe've covered this story before, now the offer has been formalized.
Not sure how this one will play out, but stay tuned, we'll have the latest news here on MobiBlog. Monday, November 27. 2006Airbus A380 Woes End? Superplane on Global Testing TourThe Airbus A380 and EADS, the holding company for the project have been foundering lately, however, the global testing, i.e. long range flying under different conditions is underway and looks successful.
The delays of the launch of the A380 have cost the company billions and have allowed competitor Boeing to scoop up precious contracts. Is the Airbus project a microcosm of why the EU won't work? The reasons are many, but perhaps the ambitious project was better suited for a wholly private company. Friday, November 24. 2006Arte Luise Kunsthotel: German Art Hotel

People travel for many reasons. Cultural experience. Family vacation. Business. Kidneys. Spleens. That's right, after years of rumor and denial, China has officially admitted that its organ business is booming. And in an attempt to answer critics that claim prisoners were being executed just to fill the huge demand for organs, new rules will regulate the organ industry in China:
Going rates for kidneys is $40,000 and livers $60,000. Via The Washington Times. Monday, November 20. 2006Smelly Guy Loses Suit Against Airline
We recently blogged about Fat Flyers, but in this edition of worst seat mates, we turn our attention to Smelly Guy. In this case, however, BA struck a blow for the rights of non-odiferous passengers the world over, by kicking the guy off the plane and winning the lawsuit he filed:
Friday, November 17. 2006No Smoking in Hawaii - Potheads Furious, Bra
Smokers. The modern day lepers. Smokers are almost as welcome as heat rash. And now, the seemingly most relaxed of all places, Hawaii, is joining the growing number of states that do not allow smoking in public.
Hawaii is one of Mobissimo's most searched destinations, but somehow, we don't feel that this will impact tourism much. We don't really see smoking as the main reason to go to Hawaii, but who knows. Tickets on Mobissimo from San Francisco to Honolulu are an astounding $250, so maybe head over the and light up. Wednesday, November 15. 2006US Airways Proposes to Merge with DeltaAs the airline industry continues to shake itself up, which is a good thing, US Airways, long thought to be the worst airline, has proposed a potential merger with Delta.
US Airways and America West have already merged, bringing together two red-headed step children and now this. This one kind of makes sense though, with main hubs in Charlotte and Atlanta, US Airways and Delta, respectively, could potentially cut out many redundant routes and streamline costs. However, this merger will not be without controversy as it will challenge both American and United. MobiBlog will keep you updated on this event. Tuesday, November 14. 2006Days Of Free Booze May Be Numbered, Alcoholics Scared![]() Much like the smokers before them, alcoholics are reacting with horror and outrage at the news that they may have to pay for their drinks on international airlines like BA and SAS. While U.S. airlines have been charging for a while, international airlines have been a safe haven for boozers. However, with this latest news, they're
Sad news for the alcoholics out there. And for Aussies and Brits, who are like alcoholics, but with better accents. Monday, November 13. 2006Bad Idea: Letting Passengers Use Cell Phones In Airplanes
It's bad enough you're stuck in a metal tube, in seats designed to replicate Medieval torture devices, eating food that you wouldn't feed your worst enemy. But the thought of adding a seat mate who spends the entire flight engaged in mindless jabbering on a cell phone is more than I can bear. Yet, Ryanair and now Emirates have both announced they are installing technology on their planes to allow passengers to yammer away to their heart's content mid-flight. If this truly becomes the future of air travel, I am scared. I just hope my headphone strategy, which works so well with seat talkers, will continue to work. If not, there are always cell phone jammers. Or an innocent stretch that knocks the cell phone loose. Or a cold, biting stare. Or smelly socks. I will call upon my full arsenal of deterrents to stop this infringement of my personal air space. It's an outrage I say. An outrage.

The L.A. times has an interesting article about "lost" luggage, tracing the journey your Samsonite takes once it leaves your hand and is either returned safely to you at your destination, lost temporarily, or gone forever. Evidently only 1 in 2,000 passengers actually lose their luggage, but if you're that 1 person nothing is more infuriating than facing a day unshaven, wearing dirty clothes. Well, perhaps sitting next to a fat guy. Or a crying baby. Or maybe the talker. But anyway, if your luggage is "lost" airlines will try and find the bag's owner for 90 days, after which it goes to the great unclaimed baggage center in
Monday, November 6. 2006Light Jets Could Change Business Travel
VLJs, or very light jets, jets about the size of an SUV, have been approved by the FAA and will soon be taking to the skies. So, the once proud corporate jet elite will be a bit diluted.
We're excited about the VLJs as that have the potential to make a big impact on the airline industry. Business travel, the gravy of airlines, could be in jeopardy by these jets as they bring the affordability of quick travel within reach of a larger audience.
