Wednesday, January 31. 2007Virgin Announces Innaugural Routes
The airline is still waiting for DOT approval, but with San Francisco as its base of operations and SFO - JFK as its inaugural route, Virgin America also just announced plans to fly to Washington Dulles, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas within its first nine months, "pending … certification by the U.S. Department of Transportation." Virgin America did not announce exactly which routes it would fly from those airports.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has recently voiced his support for the new airline by asking for a swift review of its application. The Governor notes that Virgin America will create as many as 1,700 jobs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Via USA Today. CruiseBlue: JetBlue Starts Offering Cruises
It appears JetBlue is attempting to export their "success" in the low cost air world to other travel verticals, in this case the world of cruises. They have even gone so far as to offer a "best price guarantee", but only for cruises from them. So it's basically just marketing fluff if you ask me Also, since they're obviously just reselling another company's inventory, this isn't really going to be a jet blue experience applied to cruises. They're just acting like a middleman which is just what the world needs, more middlemen. But maybe there is some value there. Doubtful, but perhaps. Like providing frequent flyer miles for the cruises. That would make it suck less. Read the Jet Blue press release about the cruise business.
