A transatlantic passenger may have infected others with a rare strain of tubercolosis.

ATLANTA - A man with a rare and dangerous form of tuberculosis ignored doctors' advice and took two trans-Atlantic flights, leading to the first U.S. government-ordered quarantine since 1963, health officials said Tuesday.

The man, who officials did not identify, is at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital in respiratory isolation.

He was potentially infectious at the time of the flights, so officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended medical exams for cabin crew members on those flights, as well as passengers sitting in the same rows or within two rows.

Not a good situation, remember those face masks whilst traveling.

Pilots of the Airbus A380 will receive larger salaries commensurate with their increased responsibility of the massive jet.

SINGAPORE (AFP) - A Singapore arbitration court ruled Friday that pilots who fly the super jumbo Airbus A380 should be paid more than those on conventional jumbo jets, setting a benchmark that could have global implications.

The Industrial Arbitration Court judgement settled a pay dispute between Singapore Airlines, the launch customer for the double-decker A380, and its pilots.

A three-member panel ruled that the minimum salary for captains on the A380 -- the world's biggest passenger plane -- will be 700 dollars (458 US) a month more than that for captains on the Boeing 747-400 (744) conventional jumbo jet.

First of all, I don't even think any of these jets will ever get delivered anyway, but one can hope.

Ja, we all know about Larry and Sergey of Google having a 737 for their personal geek fests, but a 737 is a mere tricycle compared to a 787. The latest greatest from Boeing, the 787 redefines the commercial airplane. Yet not just for the Uniteds and Continentals of the world, a posh Chinese businessman has put in an order for his.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - news) said on Tuesday it received an order for a private 787 airplane from Hong Kong real estate tycoon Joseph Lau.

The order for Boeing's new carbon-composite 787-8 model, which would seat up to 250 people if configured as a normal airliner, is valued at $153 million at list prices, the planemaker said.

In all, Boeing said it now has seven orders for private 787s, or "787 VIPs" as it calls them. It is pitching this mega-business jet at wealthy entrepreneurs, especially in Asia, where business people tend to travel longer distances.

Even one of the more reliable modes of transportation can hit some snags. The rail passengers of this Patna, India train found out first hand when their train stalled. Eager to get to their destinations, they were asked to get off the train and push.

It is difficult to imagine what will take to push a train that weighs multiple tons, but they did it! Many put their backs into it and moved the train 12 feet to reach the next available live wire. Does this remind anyone else of Festivus?

Two big announcements from Southwest at they realize they better start thinking globally and expanding their distribution if they want to remain the darlings of the industry. Southwest announced that they would be start flying code share flights to Canada, Mexico in the Caribbean as soon as 2009. There is even talk of flights to Europe according to the Star-Telegram. The other big news is that Southwest has finally seen the writing on the wall and decided to distribute via the GDS and they're starting with Galileo. What does that mean for you and me? You'll soon be able to shop for Southwest flights via traditional travel sites like Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity. Who knows, maybe you'll finally see Southwest on Mobissimo. Wink, wink.

With the American dollar dropping faster than Paris Hilton's panties on a Friday night, Europeans looking to save some euros on flights within Europe should look to American travel sites for savings says the Telegraph UK:

The price quoted earlier this week for a return British Airways flight from London to Athens for travel over the first weekend in July on its website (www.ba.com) was £252, including all taxes. Identical flights on BA through Travelocity.com were quoted at $402 (£200.58) - a saving of more than £50. The same flights on Cheaptickets.com would have cost marginally more at $403 (£201.07). For a family of four this represents potential savings of more than £200.  Those preferring to fly with Olympic Airlines could have made savings of up to £40 per person on flights on the same days by booking through the US-based websites. Our investigation also revealed savings of up to £40 and £20 respectively for flights to Nice and Barcelona over the same days. A spokesman for the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) warned passengers to check that US-based websites accept credit cards registered to British addresses. He added that British travellers could also potentially save money by booking flights through websites based on the Continent.

So there you have it, the US is good at something besides bad movies and ill advised military invasions.
