Turbanhead was traveling from Bangalore to Mumbai a while back and noticed some airplane personnel making repairs to a wing with what appeared to be duct tape? Now surely it can't be duct tape, but whatever was being used was close to it in color, size and adhesions properties. But duct tape? Granted, when we flew Air Deccan this year the carpeting in the aisles had been worn down by feet so much that you could almost see the floor through the carpet, but duct tape? Actually, according to a comment on YouTube, the tape is some kind of aviation repair tape.

"The patch materials were aluminum alloy sheet and aramid fibre reinforced composite prepreg. A cold curing acrylic based adhesive was used for bonding. Specimens with simulated patch repairs were subjected to both constant amplitude and flight simulation fatigue testing under various environmental conditions. The results indicated that bonded patches are potentially very good repairs for areas weakened by corrosion and its removal."

Anyway, begs the question whether you want to fly on any airline that is making repairs to their airplanes with tape, no matter how many test were conducted. Watch the video below.
