Best New York Restaurants: Michelin Gives 3 Stars To Alain Ducasse at the Essex House, Jean Georges, Le Bernardin and Per Se

For the first time ever, the illustrius and oft maligned Michelin Guide has turned its attention to the States. And despite the recent Conde Nast poll naming San Francisco the top destination in the country, decided to rate New York restaurants. Oh well, what can you do. The N ew York Times reported today on the winners:

Alain Ducasse at the Essex House, Jean Georges, Le Bernardin and Per Se each received three stars, the top ranking, and four restaurants received two stars: Daniel, Masa, Bouley and Danube.

Michelin surveyed 507 New York restaurants in all five boroughs for the New York guide, which will go on sale Friday for $16.95. The 39 restaurants that won stars are fewer than half as many as have stars in Paris, which has 10 three-star restaurants among the 580 places listed in the guide. London has a total of 34 restaurants with stars, with only one, Gordon Ramsay, earning three stars.

Lets hope nobody commits suicide over the results.
