Wednesday, January 4. 2006Hotei - Glorious Japanese Noodles in San FranciscoHotei Restaurant San Francisco is one of the lesser-known places in San Francisco. However, among the natives of San Francisco, Hotei is best known for its Japanese ramen. To date, it is the best ramen restaurant in San Francisco this resident has experienced! The restaurant is located in Inner Sunset distict, at 9th Avenue and Irving. The restaurant is a sister restaurant of Ebisu, a premium sushi restaurant. One can expect the same quality of food as Ebisu, but at lesser costs. Because of its close proximity to UCSF, a large percentage of the customers are from the school. It is often impossible to get a table weekends. On week nights, the restaurant is frequently at capacity and waits up to 2 hours are not uncommon. Their ramen bowls are large (though in Japan, the same bowl is considered "small"), and the ramen tastes absolutely delicious. Their noodles are very fresh, and not of the dry variety. At around $8 per person, this is a fairly good deal to anyone who's craving for some delicious ramen. One recommendation, however, is to stay away from their edamame if you suspect them not to be fresh.
