Trip Advisor just released a list of their choices for Best Hotels for families. Not a very comprehensive list, the hotels seem concentrated in a few specific countries or states, but it's a start at least if you're looking for interesting, family friendly hotels.

San Francisco has been hit with some of the steepest drops in hotel prices - a boon to travelers.

In 2009, hotel room rates in San Francisco and the nation suffered their biggest annual decline since the Great Depression, according to an analysis of recently released data.

San Francisco's daily average room prices fell nearly 16 percent from $190.12 in 2008 to $160.27 in 2009, according to research compiled by PKF Consulting, a hospitality industry research group.

The city's downward trend started in the fourth quarter of 2008 and continued throughout the year. In June, the average room rate was $134, the lowest it had been since 2005. For December, the average rate was even lower, $132.81.

Ygnacio Salinas says he won't forget his brush with a ghost in a Marriott hotel room in Minneapolis during a business trip three years ago.

Sitting alone on a bed working on his laptop, he saw a man more than 6 feet tall wearing a fedora and a long coat. "I did a double-take, and he was gone," says Salinas, who lives in Yorba Linda, Calif., and consults for a computer manufacturer.
