Tuesday, November 13. 2012Here's Your Chance To Win A Trip to France!Friday, June 1. 2012Are People On Airplanes Getting Angrier? The title reminds us of the movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell, when he says to character Miles Finch, played by Peter Dinklage, who is now everywhere thanks to Game of Thrones, "You're an angry little elf." Was that a run-on sentence? Anyway, interesting article in CNN exploring whether people, elves and taller travelers alike, are getting angrier on airplanes. The statistics seem to say so, reported instances of unruly fliers rose 29% internationally between 2009 and 2010. Two top causes of bad behavior? Alcohol and cell phones. Lesson here? Yes, stay away from drinkers on cell phones. Read the whole article on CNN. Monday, April 30. 2012Miss Travel: Travel Escorts With A TwistThat's really the only thing we can think of when we look at this site which features a tagline prominently that says, "Who Needs Money, Beautiful People Travel Free - Travel Dating For Generous And Attractive People." Sounds suspiciously like a high priced escort service to us, disguised as a "new" type of travel site. We'd love to test it out but we're probably too ugly to make the cut. If you're not and want to test it out, head on over to Miss Travel. Wonder if the Secret Service in Cartagena was using this site. Watch the video below to see how it works, thought is seems pretty simple to us. World's oldest profession gets a new twist. Thursday, April 12. 2012Is The TSA A Big Waste Of Taxpayer Dollars?Tuesday, April 10. 2012Ruh Roh, Marriott Has A P.R. Mess On Their HandsLooks like Marriott is in a lot of hot water today for inserting ads into web pages whenever guests surfed the internet using the Marriott gateway:
The New York Times did a bit of informal investigating and seemed to confirm the same thing:
OK, sounds pretty scary. But lets be honest, this stuff goes on all the time. And frankly, if you're getting internet for free you should be willing to put up with some ads or other annoying things like surveys. Big problem here is that Marriott was doing it without their guests knowledge. Heck, they weren't probably even aware themselves. Whatever the reason, they should probably clean up this mess pronto. UPDATE: The guy who originally discovered this issue, has been updating his blog about the situation. Here are his latest updates:
Thursday, September 22. 2011Low Cost Air Travel By Balloon and Lawn ChairIf you saw the movie UP and fantasized about floating away from your daily responsibilities, take heart in this story. Thirty-eight year old adventurer, Johnathan Trappe, floated across the Alps in a lawn chair attached to 54 helium-filled balloons. Looks pretty fun, albeit a bit dangerous. But think of it as the ultimate low cost carrier. Watch the video below. Via GetOutdoors. Friday, July 15. 2011Find and Visit Your Friends with Twalaba - Social Traveling?

Friday, November 19. 2010Mobissimo First to Bring Travel Search to FacebookSAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Travel search engine Mobissimo (www.mobissimo.com), has launched the first vertical travel search application available within Facebook. Now, users can access Mobissimo’s travel search engine directly from Mobissimo’s Facebook page and get real-time results from over 172 different travel websites worldwide. This new capability is part of an aggressive strategy to leverage Facebook’s growing importance in online travel distribution and planning while continuing to drive innovation in an increasingly homogenous travel search market.
“As the only major U.S. travel search engine with its own proprietary travel search technology, deep integration into the Facebook ecosystem makes perfect sense for us to reach the 500 million Facebook users who want to be able to search for travel without leaving Facebook.” said Beatrice Tarka, Mobissimo’s CEO and co-founder. The recent developments in travel search show the risk of relying on third party technologies for core search. Many travel companies already depend heavily on Google (GOOG) to drive visitors. If the Google-ITA acquisition is approved, travel search companies will be forced to rely on Google for core technology, further increasing their dependence and reliance on Google and reducing their ability to innovate within important new distribution channels like Facebook. “As ITA has become the dominant provider of travel search technology, companies that rely on it for core search cannot differentiate their content and innovate. Our unique position as the only major travel search engine with its own technology gives us the flexibility to continue to innovate and provide unparalleled access to travel content no other company can provide,” said Tarka. Mobissimo’s new Facebook travel search is an example of how companies with proprietary technology can continue to drive innovation and differentiation in the travel industry. In addition to the launch of its own search engine within Facebook, Mobissimo is also providing the Mobissimo Facebook travel search protocol to its partners so they can quickly integrate their own travel inventory into Facebook via the application marketplace. Most importantly, beginning today Facebook users no longer have to leave Facebook to search and plan travel, they simply can navigate to the Mobissimo Facebook application to get instant access to the world’s leading travel brands and the best deals on airfare, hotel, and car rentals, all within Facebook.
